Citronella dog collar 

If you’re looking for a citronella dog collar here two different types to choose from. One is made by Multivet and the other one is made by a company called Premier. 

Multivet Citronella Spray Collar 

Multivet makes a wide variety of products for pets and one of them is a dog collar designed to retrain your dog. Their Anti-bark collars come in a couple different varieties. The orginal, the deluxe, and the odorless original.  All of their collars come with a training manual. 

Their new deluxe kit has an adjustable collar and a longer lasting battery.  For the deluxe model, it comes with a scentless spray, but a citronella spray refill is available if you want to purchase it.   

One of the nice things about the deluxe version is that the reservoir has a see-through window that allows you to see how much liquid as left inside. This way you don’t have to constantly open the top of the reservoir to see how liquid is left. 

The deluxe model comes with two levels of spray strength and is a little bit more ergonomic, a good design so it fits around your dog’s neck better. 

The original model comes with a citronella spray although now it does come with a senseless spray as well. 

The Multivet works when the dog barks, there will be a spray directed toward your dog’s nose. Normally the sound of the spray, and the feeling of the mist on the nose is enough to deter most dogs from barking. 
 

Premier Citronella Dog Collar 

The Premier model comes with an on and off switch and fits dogs as little as 6 pounds and as young as six months old.  Their devices are guaranteed to be defect free although they are not guaranteed to work on all dogs. 

When your dog barks a microphone on the collar hears it and signals to the citronella reservoir to emit a spray burst directed at your dog’s nose. Citronella is not harmful to your dog, to your kids, or to the environment. 

Most dogs simply do not like the smell of citronella, although most humans should not find the smell offensive at all. 

This citronella dog collar kit comes with an instruction manual and a refill bottle and normally retails for around $50-$80.  The collar weighs 2.5 ounces 

Summary 

Citronella collars work on many dogs, but however some dogs they will not work for. In these cases you may have to seek a professional dog trainer or other type of barking deterrent to stop your dog. 

Remember with these collars you have to constantly make sure the reservoir is filled otherwise your dog receives no negative reinforcement for barking. 

Also, with a citronella dog collar, you always have to make sure the battery is working as well.  Normally it only takes about one minute a day to check the reservoir and to check the battery on these collars.
